Behave Ahead of the Growth
My team has been discussing the concept of hiring ahead of the growth for several months now. The idea is that as long as we keep hiring capacity in our growth areas before that capacity gets maxed out, then the growth curve keeps moving up. As soon as capacity gets tapped in a growth area, the curve undoubtedly stalls.
The discussion took a new spin today because amongst the management team, we do not necessarily need more managers, we just need to behave in a way that creates leadership capacity ahead of the growth. Growing teams will undoubtedly put strain on an individual’s leadership capacity and unless we shift our mindset, activities and focus to generate a little excess capacity, we will limit the growth curve as leaders. So the challenge was issued today to start thinking ahead of the growth, so we can start behaving ahead of the growth.
Then it should feel like we are pulling the organization up to where we already live instead of trying to keep up or trying to push the rock over our head onto the next ledge.
