Departures Are Normal and Create Opportunities

We have been blessed at HSI Sensing to have low turnover in our staff.  Average tenure is greater than 11 years with many employees even having 30 years of experience with us.  So when 4 or 5 employees give notice to either retire or move on to other employment, it can feel like a lot since even that is an abnormally high number for us.

This moment reminds me that departures are normal.  People sometimes need change.  Life events or stages sometimes shift our priorities or needs.

Departures also create opportunity.  Hopefully, all that are leaving HSI are moving on to a position that is better for them.  If it is retirement, I hope it is the attainment of a lifelong goal.  The enjoyment of their retirement years spent with family, friends and appreciating the fruits of their labor.  If it is other employment, I hope it is a position that will challenge them in new ways.  It will allow them to grow personally, professionally and make even greater contributions to the world.  Maybe even make more money.  No hard feelings exist to those leaving.  Remember, departures are normal and in pursuit of their best life possible.

Departures create an opportunity for those HSI hires next.  The employee we hire next is making a similar shift to the person leaving our employment.  They are possibly taking on more responsibility here at HSI beyond their current position.  If they come to us from other employment or college, it is the next step up in their career.  This position is their chance to make a bigger difference, grow personally and professionally, while even making more money than in their previous position.

Of course, I am sad to see these valued team members go.  They contribute to our culture.  They know their job and take with them some historical knowledge.  I will miss them for sure.  I wish them the best and am excited for their future and ours.
