Destress By Understanding The Mission
Have I mentioned that I’m proud of my management team? They understand that our company mission is to “Connect customers with top of the line switching and sensing solutions.”
I challenged my team last week by asking them if we have any projects going on or activities that are demanding significant attention that do not align with our mission or strategy. The answer was “NO!”
This is an incredible feat and the first time this has happened during my 12 years at HSI. It is the first time I have been aware of this happening inside any organization, public, private, profit, non-profit or otherwise, I’ve been involved with.
It’s still early in the year, but I think this is going to pay huge dividends by the end of the year.
At the moment this is a massive stress reducer. There is no strategic burden. There is no argument over why a project that doesn’t fit needs to be ended. There is no argument over why a project that doesn’t fit needs to be saved and continued despite the fact it is not strategically critical. Now we simply get to focus on execution.
We know exactly what to do, now we just need to go do it!
Our focus can be on learning how to execute these strategies at a high level!
The conventional wisdom you always hear is that once you understand your mission and the strategies required to carry it out, it becomes much easier to focus. It becomes much easier to say yes to the right things and no to the wrong things. I now believe this to be true and will enjoy this moment of executional focus.
