Engage Those Leading By Example

Ask questions and more importantly, answer questions.  I meet with every department monthly to discuss key company performance metrics and how they link to profitability.  During these sessions, team members are encouraged to ask questions.  I have told them that I will answer any question they throw out.  If there are questions I am unwilling to answer, I am unable to fully develop the trust I am seeking.

I also like to ask them questions from time to time.  Usually, this happens outside the meeting.  After all, this is the group that is very willing to offer their expertise, but typically wait to be asked.  Thus, I find one of the best ways to keep them engaged and reinforce their value is to ask their opinions regarding products or initiatives we are working that will impact them.  Trust me, they will have a good answer.
