My Brain – What Audacity
This week saw the establishment of the actual goals associated with our business driving metrics. What audacity! The objectives set relay a veritable optimism and bravado I have not seen inside our walls before. I love it! The management team not only believes in what we are doing, they believe in themselves and our staff. Otherwise, they would not have set such high expectations for themselves.
The best part of the goal setting conversation was that the individuals responsible for the metrics adapted them to serve the greater purpose. Instead of just setting a number as the measurement of success, each item was looked at as answering a critical question about progress. One measurement was abandoned before it began because it was determined upon analysis not to have a strong relationship to revenue growth as initially expected. Several financial metrics became informative critical numbers. No goal was specifically set because it would have been arbitrary. The value was seen in how that critical information shapes decision making in relation to other metrics.
How dare they bring difficult goals and reinvent the metrics to defy convention! Very bold… and Outstanding!
