Myth of the Individual Leader

I was reminded this morning of the fact that no successful, individual leader actually leads by themselves. Their influence ultimately comes through others. Attending the Economic Development Council meeting thing morning brought this strong reminder. We are starting to see real success and momentum building in our community. This is coming from the collective activity and influence of many interested parties with unique roles. Each of these organizations require capable leaders, all pulling their entities forward. They are all required to perform at a high level to lead to mutual success.

It is also fun, as one of those influential leaders, working to bring success, to see how each of the leaders around me are working. At this stage, I am able to support them, and add value in small ways that they take and magnify to levels much greater than what I could ever do alone. Cicero famously said “no man is an island.” That is never more true that with influencers.
