Tools for Titans Book Review

Tim Ferriss, the guy who wrote Four Hour Workweek, has a podcast called The Tim Ferriss Show.  On the podcast, he brings in accomplished guests to ask them questions about things that interest him, and they are great at.  This book project started as a notebook for himself with the highlights from each of his guests.  Lucky for us, he decided to publish it.  He took the best of each of the interviews and condensed them into a few pages per person.  He then organized each person into three categories: healthy, wealthy and wise.

I loved this book because it was in bite-sized chunks.  I could easily read the highlights for one person per day.   This allowed me to read briefly and get great content on a daily basis.  I also felt accomplishment having finished a small section.  I appreciated that he simply shared their perspectives and what emerges is extremely fascinating.

Some patterns start to become apparent.  Almost every successful person has a routine.  A routine of personal improvement or investment.  Almost everyone includes an element of meditation in their routines.  Everyone has a deterministically positive perspective.  Almost everyone has a mission for their lives.  Then there are also a lot of differences.  Some insist on morning routines and others evening.  Some are planners and others more spontaneously opportunistic.  This is a great representation of real life.  Success comes in many forms.  Some patterns are consistent, and others are dependent upon the personality or situation.  This is definitely a book you can read and make your own.  Take away what works for you and learn from the perspectives that do not.

One last piece of advice I will give about this book.  Buy it in an electronic format you can highlight.  It is 707 pages long.  When I saw it at Barnes & Noble, I was so glad I bought it on Kindle.  Since I consumed it in small chunks, it was great to read on my phone as time allowed.  Carrying around a volume like this would’ve been a chore.  Plus, there is so much great content, the highlights have already proven beneficial as I review the best of this extensive work.
