What If Monday Is Your First Day?
Think back to the week before you started your job. You’ve discovered a new opportunity, pursued it and won. You have been chosen to take a position in a great company. You are bought into the vision and excited about what you anticipate achieving, both as an individual and as an organization. The possibilities seem unlimited and you are going to make a HUGE difference! There was a sense of eager anticipation. Your heart beats a little faster and you show up ready to conquer the world. Determined to achieve. I am sure you have ideas about the great things you want to achieve, how thrilling and rewarding this job will be, along with great thoughts about exactly how you will execute to achieve these lofty goals.
Fast forward to now. I bet you have achieved a few things, maybe some progress, but likely not hit those lofty goals. It may not be as fun as you thought because every job has challenges. You probably have been bogged down with some administrative systems that were in place before you arrived or have been set up since and there is a portion of your day, your week, your month that is going through the motions because it is just part of the routine of things you “have to do.” What if you hit the reset button? Hit it right now! What if you took the weekend, maybe even a long weekend or a week, whatever it takes, and thought about what you want to achieve in your job? Think about the lofty things you want to accomplish and the ways you want to accomplish them. Then come back to work on Monday and start making it happen! How much better equipped are you for this exercise now than you were your first day on the job? Then why haven’t you done it since that first day? You do not have to leave one job for a new one to get that eager anticipation excitement again. Take a step back and look at Monday like it will be your first day. I guarantee you will come in with a rekindled fire and make some critical changes!
